Spirit of Grafton Celebration
Celebrating over 150 years of history, culture, business, & community

Catch the Spirit of Grafton -- Memorial Day Weekend 2007

Nestled along the valley of the Tygart River, Grafton's roots run deep in the Appalachian soil.  As a community that sprang out of the industrialization of our nation, Grafton's residents helped to cut the pathways of railroad lines that connected the east to the west.  In the early stages of the civil war, Grafton was regarded as a strategic site because of its location and railroad access.  Grafton gave birth to the holiday celebrated annually in May, known as Mother's Day.  The rich history, and the spirit of community of this small Appalachian town has cultivated a heritage of mountain lifestyle that has remained in this valley for over 150 years.

May 25th-- 26th-- 27th-- 28th 2007

In May 2006, Grafton celebrated 150 years of history, culture, business, and community.

During this celebration, visitors experienced the phases of life along the Tygart, from the early settlers who built the railroad, to Civil War soldiers, to the veterans of all wars that Grafton has memorialized for over 130 years and has earned Grafton the title of "Memorial City".

In May 2007, come back to Grafton to enjoy music, street vendors, historic tours, parades, and fireworks, as well as the beauty of our natural landscape and the arts and crafts of our community members.  There is something here for everyone!  We invite you to join us and experience the simplicity and charm of Appalachian life.

Come Catch the Spirit of Grafton!
